Memorizing key Bible verses helps children acquire a rich understanding of God’s Word and its application to their daily lives. Kids’ Celebration inspires and assists children to memorize verses by providing a system and rewards to encourage children to hide God’s Word in their hearts.
Your child may choose to memorize the verses given by Kids’ Celebration or choose a verse alone or with you. We usually use the New International Version at Kids’ Celebration but any Bible version is acceptable as long as the verse is recorded as written in that version.
Children 3 years old through Grade 5 should receive a monthly Bible verse on a bright paper card from his or her teacher at the beginning of each month. This verse will be taught in class by their teacher, but please help them at home also.
You may help your child choose a verse directly from the Bible and write it on an index card along with its reference. Your child may also choose his or her own verse(s) from the file box with age appropriate verses located in each classroom. Please ask a teacher if you would like to select a verse from the file box.
Your child may recite verses learned in previous years for credit in the current year. For example, if a child learned 20 verses for credit in Grade 1, those same 20 verses, may be recited again in Grade 2 for credit.
Although Bible verses will be regularly taught in your child’s class, the majority of the responsibility for Bible memory remains with you, the child’s parent. Bible verse memorization is definitely a partnership between Kids’ Celebration and you as parents. Without your input and encouragement, your child’s potential for Bible memory is unlikely to be met.
Family Tips for Bible Memorization offers suggestions to help parents as they are encouraging their children to learn memory verses. You may also obtain a booklet that our KC teachers use, containing game ideas and fun ways to teach verses to your children from the Kids’ Celebration Welcome Center. Children should memorize the verse, the reference, and know what the verse means in their own words. Please continue to review the verses with your child, since this is the best way for children to really “hide God’s Word” permanently in their hearts.
A child can recite or sing a verse for their parent or their teacher. He or she must give the adult the card the verse is written on so that the adult can follow along. If the child is reciting the verse for a parent, the parent must sign the verse card to indicate that the child has successfully memorized the verse.
It is important to make sure that the teacher receives the verse card (or index card) back so that he or she can record the verse for credit. No credit can be given without some sort of verse card. Children earn one credit for each verse memorized.
After most services, children are invited to redeem their earned credits at our Kingdom Kids Shop. In addition, plaques are given once-a-year in front of the whole congregation to those who have learned the required number of verses. Because of the teacher’s many responsibilities, we ask parents to follow up and be sure your child receives credit for the verses they have learned. A record of the verses each child has memorized is available for you to look up on a computer in our Leader’s Corner. Please see a coordinator in Kids’ Celebration for instructions on how to access this computer.
Here is the list of this year's Bible memory verses (in pdf format). You can use this list to help your children with their memorization and to keep track of their progress.
